Toric Lenses

Toric Lenses

Toric contact lenses are soft contact lenses with a cylinder, designed specifically for eyes with a cylinder defect, better known as astigmatism.

When you have astigmatism, you see out of focus both near and far. This defect can also occur in combination with nearsightedness and farsightedness. This is corrected by a toric lens or eyeglass.

Toric contact lenses have 2 different focal points in the lens horizontally and vertically, spherical contact lenses only 1.

Because of this, the toric contact lens must remain in the correct position to give the best visual acuity, and too much movement or twisting of the lens can cause a significant reduction in visual acuity.

For this reason, toric contact lenses exist that are weighted down with a weight on the bottom. This prevents too much movement or rotation.
